History
Ray’s Ramblings recalls that the Mt. Vernon L & N depot was built in 1891 and destroyed by fire on June 15, 1978. Steam engines ceased through Mt. Vernon on January 1, 1953 and passenger service between St. Louis and Evansville ended May 1, 1971.
