History

Dahlgren was named after Admiral John A. Dahlgren. He served as Chief of the Bureau of Ordnance and was appointed Commander of the Washington Navy Yard by President Abraham Lincoln. Three naval ships and a surface warfare center located in Dahlgren, VA also commemorate his name.
