History

The Southern Illinoisan reports in an article dated November 8, 1964, that the Cobden Illinois Central Depot has been torn down to make way for a parking lot. The structure was built in 1898. The town was named after Sir Richard Cobden, a railroad director and member of Parliament that helped obtain funds for the project. David Gowde built the previous structure and a freight house.
