History

The C & A Railroad shared Third Street while the B & O and Illinois Central traveled down Madison Street. At Third Street, the two segments intersected. On the northeast side of the intersection was the C & A Freight House which would later be purchased by the B & O. South of the intersection was the C & A passenger depot. It remains and is an Amtrak station today.

JA Tower occupied the southwest corner of this crossing.
